Giving a third party SFTP access to one of my sites

Adding third-party SFTP access looks a little bit different depending on which hosting platform you're on. Not sure which platform you're on, next-gen or classic? Start here.

Next-Gen Hosting

When we built the next-gen hosting platform from the ground up, we did so with a focus on site and server speed. Because we know that pre-built control panels such as cPanel and Virtualmin can cause performance problems and slow down your site, we opted not to include those on the new platform. 

If you need to give a third-party developer, designer, or company FTP/SFTP access, please email support. We're happy to set up additional accounts for you as need.

Classic Hosting

If you need to grant SFTP access to a third party for a site, you can do this from within Virtualmin. Here's how:

1. Log in to Virtualmin.
2. Select a domain.
3. Go to Edit Users and select Add a Website FTP User. This is located on the top right.
4. Choose SCP only permissions. They will need to use SFTP (port 22) to connect, as unencrypted FTP is disabled.
5. Next, provide a link to the virtual server, the username and password you set up for them.

This will allow your third party to work with the SFTP option in Cyberduck or in other FTP programs that support SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol). When you setup an account this way, the developer can only access files for the one site, and only through SFTP. SSH access is disabled for safety.
